Keep Going Together Bread & Egg Fund

Given the crisis of food insecurity in our community, KGT is offering our support. We are starting our efforts at the Farmer’s Market at IX in Charlottesville. To fill the gaps of withheld benefits, we are working with the host of the market, Market Central to create a holiday fund which offers SNAP beneficiaries a loaf of locally baked bread or a dozen fresh local eggs every week through December 19.

For a small donation (about $5 for eggs and $10 for bread), you can help nourish folks with locally produced food and also help the small local producers who are negatively impacted when benefits are cut.

It’s simple to be part of the Keep Going Together Bread & Eggs Fund between now and December 19 please

  1. Go to Market Central’s Donation page here,

  2. Hit DONATE and contribute any amount ($5 makes a difference!) and

  3. Be sure to write “Donation to the KGT Bread & Eggs Fund” in the comment section.

That’s all it takes to support the KGT Bread & Eggs Fund and both people and producers in our community. Our commitment to our neighbors is important both now and when their hunger no longer screams from the headlines. Mutual aid invites us to commit to each other for the long term. And what could be a more basic, fundamental way to care for each other than offering food?

For those who need bread or eggs, please go to the Market Central tent at the Farmers Market at IX on Saturday mornings. You can find them across from the big mural and in front of the playground. The folks at the Market Central table will give a coupon for bread or eggs at vendors with whom they have made arrangements. They can choose which they want every week through December 20.
