This video is for fun! You don't need to know anything to be part of this. You need no experience or special skills, but if you want to know the music and the movements (or if you just want to move with me for half an hour!), you'll find it all here. But it’s not necessary! Just come! Please invite friends and neighbors. We all need to show up, stand up and speak up.
Why do we move together at pro-democracy rallies?
Connection to Self. There is a lot of tension and fear in our country and it shows up in our bodies. Moving is a way of relaxing our bodies and nervous systems.
Connection to Each Other. When humans move together, we create collective effervescence: it's been happening since the beginning of time. We are using the human act of moving together to generate that effervescence!
Connection to Passers By. Our movement is an invitation to those passing by, driving by or seeing us on video afterwards. If someone thinks they are alone in feeling afraid of authoritarianism, they can see us and know that there are people they can join.
Connection to People in Power. By showing up and moving together, we are telling those in power that we are here, we are connected, we are courageous, we are peaceful, we are strong, and we are full of joyful badassery.
